whatcha readin'? {goal 35 :: book 1}
I had no expectations for this book.
I knew nothing about it.
Someone had passed it along to me
and so I gave it a try.
And it was so good.
It is a memoir…it is real
and gritting and
full of emotion
and a-ha moments.
I had a little a-ha moment of my own.
I am very, very bad at
being able to stay mad at anyone.
I just can’t.
And it’s not even that I can’t
stay
mad…but I have a hard time
even getting mad.
I can be rant-y or annoyed,
aggravated, irritated, sour,
cranky, snarky with a person
but I really struggle with actual anger.
I have lost my temper before
but not many times, by my count…
not REALLY lost my temper.
Usually, if someone really makes me mad
I just disappear. I withdraw. Retreat.
Until the bad feelings pass…
which they pretty much always do.
But in the book, the author learns
that she can’t be intimate
until she learns to express anger.
And immediately,
my brain was like “are you listening?
did you hear that? pay attention!”
So anyway,
I haven’t really decided what,
if anything,
to do with that lightbulb moment so…
yeah….this was a really great book. :)
Off to a good start for
whatcha readin’? 2022 edition!

NEXT UP:: BECOMING - MICHELLE OBAMA
whatcha readin'? {goal 35 - books 16-20}
Because this worked so well already,
I have decided to share the next 5 books
I read in post instead of numerous posts….
:)
keeping it simple in December.
Can’t go wrong with that.
I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and interesting providing two points of view and lots of stuff to make you think, especially about what you (and by you, I mean me) might take for granted without even realizing.
Well worth the read.

I was very excited about this book.
I had loved the first book I read by this author (Daisy Jones & the Six) and this one did not disappoint me at all! Lots of secrets and intrigue
and trying to figure out who was who and
what was what…I really enjoyed this (not quite as much as Daisy Jones) but look forward to reading more by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

“Meaning is not found in the material realm - dinner, jazz, cocktails, conversation,
or whatever. Meaning is what is left when everything else is stripped away.”
Read this book. It will put your life in perspective.

I love Kate Quinn’s books and this one did not disappoint.
Set in 1940, with strong women characters and a bit of a mystery
and intrigue…secrets, code-breaking, war…so worth the read.

While I enjoyed the writing in this book, some of the subject matter
hit too close to home for me to be objective.
But a good read nonetheless! I really did enjoy the writing
and the story carried me along effortlessly.

whatcha readin'? {goal 35 - book 13, 14 and 15}
I am very, very behind on posting
the books I have read for 2021…
to make up for that,
I am going to try posting them in
multiples now until I catch up…
so here are books
13, 14 and 15.
13.
I was expecting this to be a light, quick read.
Not really what it was.
A heavy subject (abortion) and a jumpy
timeline with a lot of characters
made me feel confused and frustrated.
But it might have just been me.
Sometimes if you read a book at the wrong time,
your brain rejects it I think.
And I wanted a light read.

14.
I enjoyed this book.
I know this because I gave it 5 out of 5 hearts.
But I also didn’t make any notes of why
I loved it and if you know me,
you know my brain immediately deletes
a book from my memory when I
finish reading it….
so I really can’t remember why I liked it
but apparently,
I really liked it.
Maybe you will, too.

15.
My one note that I had written
about this book was:
little bit of a hard read. grim.
and then I gave it 3.5 hearts
so…..
not sure what else I can say.

NEXT UP:: SUCH A FUN AGE - KILEY REID
whatcha readin' {goal 35::book 12}
this book.
this frigging book.
i literally could not wait to
write about how much
i loved
this book.
i really had no idea what to expect when i picked this up.
for some reason, i always thought
that this was a book of poetry
which i would have been totally ok
with but it turns out it is actually
an incredibly interesting and thought provoking,
intense and empathetic book
about anxiety…
the various forms, the degrees,
the stages, the highs and lows,
the way it presents itself differently
on the outside for people…
i think (know) i was probably (definitely)
a little bit (insanely) anxious as a child
but i don’t consider myself to be
anxious as an adult…which may surprise
some people…yet if you knew me
as a child,
you know what my past anxiety level was
that i am measuring against
(to give this some perspective,
let me remind you that my grade one teacher
wrote that I may need psychological help
in my report card….and she was most likely (definitely) right….)
anyway.
i digress. :)
all i can say is
if you think you might be a little anxious
or a lot anxious or even not at all
anxious, you should still read this book
because chances are
someone in your life is and this
reallllllly helps to see where
they might be coming from….
