how i spent my saturday afternoon...

June 8, 2024 Arlene Giddings

Working on the jar of challenges theme
for 30 days of fairy tales,
I really wanted to try this
"tunnel book" idea I had seen…

Last night I watched videos
and tutorials
and today I gave it a shot.
I messed it up in a couple places,
but mostly,
I WAS SO FRIGGING HAPPY WITH IT.

I may have jumped up and clapped
and 🥳 woohoo-ed 🥳when I realized
the placement was right for
red hiding hood
and that IT WAS GOING TO WORK.
:)

And also…my mom keeps telling me
that I have to keep doing the things I always did,
the things that dad would get a kick out of….
and I know he definitely would have gotten
a kick out of this. 🥰

how it looks flat….

whatcha readin'? 2020 {book 8::goal 30}

April 13, 2020 Arlene Giddings

Honestly…I thought I was going to like this
a lot more
than I actually did.

I think my problem is not
with this book or the writing…
I have just never been great with short stories,
even fairy tales.

I need more. I need to feel like
I know the characters,
I need a deeper connection.

But…it was interesting…
it just took me a long time to finish it.
I would just pick it up in spurts…
I liked the notes that he added at the
end of the fairy tales though…
:)

whatcha readin'? 2019 {book 13::goal 25}

September 10, 2019 Arlene Giddings

here’s a secret
that’s not really a secret…
i love fairy tales.

and this felt like a fairy tale to me.

a little girl lost and abandoned,
secrets kept and whispered and wondered about…
a mystery,
a book of fairy tales,
a hidden garden, walled away from the rest of the world…

oh, i loved this book.

i will warn you though…i had to make notes at one point
of who was who and how this person knew that person
and so on and so forth. :)

out fer a rip...

September 2, 2018 Arlene Giddings

On one of my beach days this summer,
I went to Victoria by the Sea
(which is one of my most favorite places...
but...not at the height of tourist season...).

this totally surprised me.

the rocks make me think of rippled chocolate.  I just want to eat them.
(but...I won't.)

I went to the beach and hung out there for the afternoon,
then ended up in Canoe Cove...
and drove through Bonshaw on the way home
which was where I saw those adorable sheep
and could have sat by the
side of the road watching them
for the rest of the day....
if that wouldn't have been creepy for the people
who lived in the house that owned the sheep.

and then there was the dirt road
on the way home...
that even had a DIRT ROAD INTERSECTION.
:) :) :)

this photo makes me think of fairy tales...I keep waiting to see little red riding hood...
(but...not the wolf).

whatcha readin'? {2017::book 9 - goal 24}

September 11, 2017 Arlene Giddings

i picked this up on a whim...
i really knew nothing about it.
but the title was interesting
and i'm always drawn in by anything
that might be reminiscent of fairy tales
which this book was
in a very, very loose sense.

i enjoyed her writing
and the little twists she wove in
along the way.
i have to admit there were times that
i felt a little confused
or lost...
and found it difficult
to pick up the thread of the story again
but sometimes,
i think that might be my own fault
for reading a book
in dribs and drabs
of time
instead of rich big open blocks
of focused time.

i did enjoy this though and would definitely
give her other books a try though.
